Family therapy

Talking as a family, with no one left out

For families with teenagers or grown children, and for parents who want guidance.

  • Every voice counts

The therapist gives each person a turn, in whichever language comes easiest.

  • Two cultures at the same table

Parents and children often live the move to this country differently. We talk about that.

  • What is shared and what is not

Your therapist explains in writing what stays in the session and what limits the law sets.

What it is like

What it is like, in six points

  • Who it helps

Families with teenagers or grown children, and parents who want guidance.

  • What sessions look like

Everyone can come together, or only the parents, or one person at a time. The family decides.

  • How we work

Talk therapy for families, attentive to the change of country and language. Your therapist explains the method.

  • What it is not

It is not an evaluation for a legal or immigration matter. For that, we connect you with legal help.

  • Length and frequency

Sessions last 60 minutes. Your therapist sets the pace with the family.

  • How it is paid

With Medicaid, an insurance plan or a fee set by your income, given in writing before you start.

Questions

Three questions about this service

Can you see my teenager?

Yes, with parents or guardians in family therapy. The rules about a minor's consent depend on their age and on Illinois law; your therapist explains them in writing before you start.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Your therapist explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and listens. At the end, the two of you decide whether to continue.

How often are sessions, and for how long?

Your therapist sets the pace with you. We do not promise a number of sessions: you can stop or change therapists whenever you like.
